Gateway started life in 1979 after John and Ann Heywood came to Perth through John's work. At that time, there apparently was no Charismatic / Pentecostal church in Perth. After receiving various prophetic words from people not knowing the situation they were led by God to start a church in their front room.
The name "Gateway Christian Fellowship" was chosen as Perth is considered to be a gateway to the highlands and the north and we wanted the church to be a Gateway for people into the things of God.
The church, for many years, enjoyed the wise counsel and inspired help of Stewart Brunton of the Gate in Dundee.
Over the years Gateway has led a nomadic life, using community centres, hotels and other places which we could rent for a Sunday. For two Sundays we even met on the North Inch in wonderful sunshine, as no other place was available.
From 1996 to 2002 we had our first permanent home when we met in a warehouse in Earls Dykes. It was particularly welcome as we were no longer "doing" church out of the back of a trailer each week! Our emphasis is always on the people who meet not on the building where we meet.
From 2002 to 2005 we met at the YMCA (former St Andrews Church) in Atholl St, until we moved to our present location in Glenearn Rd.
We believe God has called us to pioneer, be filled with the Holy Spirit and work for unity with the wider church.
